Mac Problem installing EP "you must already have the Sims 3 installed". [SOLVED]

Hi! I have been downloading the Sims 3 on my mac using the guide in this forum. It's been a great guide (I don't know anything about torrents... cracks, dmgs, ???). However, when installing the expansion I've run into a problem. First off, I am prompted to select between Macintosh HD or Disk Image as the download destination (both have sufficient space...). When I select either it says "To Install The Sims 3 Into The Future you must already had the Sims 3 installed - Select a volume where /The Sims 3.localized/TheSims3.app is already installed". My only option is to "go back"... no continue key or anything. This was not in the guide - thanks so much for any help in advance!

I think I may have skipped a step when downloading the base game - I tried to open it from the launcher and got a "no disc found" prompt. I'm going to poke around a little more but would still appreciate any help.

Another update: I own the base game and when I put it in I could run the game.... however, still can't download the EP.

Please check to make sure that you have done the following:

* If you have previously installed The Sims 3 on your mac, please do a FULL and CLEAN uninstall before proceeding.

1) Install your base game by dragging the .app file into your Applications folder.

2) *Update your base game to the latest version via the launcher's Game Updates tab. [Current: V1.63] Make sure that it says V1.63 in your launcher

3) Unzip original Expansion Pack files with Stuffit Expander. (Skip Steps 3 & 4 if you have downloaded your EPs in .iso or .dmg)


4) Create .dmg files of the EPs with Disk Utility.

5) Install EPs in order of release into the same applications folder. (There are two Application folders. Make sure to choose the right one!)

6) Apply the LATEST Ultimate Fix for Mac. (Use ONLY the two files in the main #Crack folder!)

7) Enjoy your game!

* If the update fails via the launcher for some reason, please download the manual patch instead HERE.

I've installed two of the EPs successfully, so I think I'm doing alright,   but just a quick question. First I install the EP, then I apply the crack from the EPs rar into The Sims 3, then I apply the ultimate fix for that EP in the same place?  Also, can I eject all the dmgs except one, or do I have to keep them all running?

Firstly, DO NOT use any of the cracks that came with the EPs. The only crack you should use are the files that came with the Ultimate Fix. 

And yes, you may eject all the dmgs after you are done with the installation.

So if I already applied cracks that came with the game, if I put the one from the ultimate fix in that folder, it will replace those, right? (I sooo hope I didn't mess this up lol)

You could try that. Though if it doesn't work you will know what went wrong lol.

I was doing fab, installed up to generations with no problems. I downloaded town life stuff and booted up the same and got "service initialization error" and "do you wish to debug". I tried renaming the /electronicsarts/the sims 3 as I read in a different thread (with no success), and then uninstalled town life... still no dice. Any ideas?
(By the way... I did end up having to uninstall and start over. This time I didn't apply the cracks in the downloads, everything should be installed right )

Did ypu apply the Ultimate Fix again after installing town life stuff?

Did you install any mods or CC?  If you did, try removing them.

If you did not, try applying the manual patch again, followed by the Ultimate Fix. Let me know if that works

I ended up uninstalling it all and just starting over, I got the EPs I wanted most working and decided not to push my luck! Thanks so much for your help!!!
