how much space does sims 3 including all EP's and SP's required on a harddisk?

On my PC I have 33.4 GB in Program files and another 13.6 GB in My documents (including some store content, mods and saves).

Also, keep in mind that the folder where your Saves, Mods, CC and other stuff is kept, will be saved in your MAIN hard-disk, which is usually the C: drive. You cannot (easily) have that folder on another hard-drive.This means that if your C: drive is low on space, and you want to install expansions there, you will run into problems. In that case, try upgrading the computer or use an external hard-drive to save the game installation files on there. So that you still have enough space on C: for your Saves and other stuff.

I was thinking i could install the game(s) on a USB stick.
I have previously installed it on an external harddrive, but it broke, and I have to reinstall. I needed to know what size USB stick I should get. Maybe a 64G stick?

Yes, 64 GB sounds good to me.
At the same time, you could also use this flashdrive then to make regular backups of the folder "The Sims 3", located in My Documents/Electronic Arts (what I mentioned above already).
