Sims 3 won't launch when I click the play button?

I'll skip over the part where there was a lot of fiddling and searching, but I'll tell you that I had errors when I pressed the play button that said, "Windows cannot find Game_Win32/TS3W.exe file. (I found them in my Recycle bin, of all places, so I restored them- which brings me to where I am now-- clicking the play button and having nothing happen.) I eventually decided to uninstall all my expansions and then reinstall them because of my current problem, however it was not fixed. I'm at a loss as to what I should so apart from reinstalling the base game, which I would like to avoid at all costs. (It took a long, long time for the game to install onto my laptop.) I tried skipping the launcher by creating a shortcut, but after watching a tutorial I realized that I did not have the file mentioned. 

What should I do? Would it be best to uninstall the base game, or do I still have a chance at fixing this mess?   Any help would be extremely appreciated...

Just out of interest: where did you get/download your games from ? Next, can you try turning off ANY of your anti-virus/anti-malware software ? It's possible that your anti-virus messed with some game files....The next step is that you re-do the steps from #2 to #4 here:
