Game has stopped working. [SOLVED] Empty Game has stopped working. [SOLVED]

Post by Guest Thu 04 Sep 2014, 14:03

I open the launcher, launch the game and everything is OK. I choose the game I have already saved and then it starts loading. It gets almost to the complete bar when the game crashes and I get this sign: "A problem caused the program to stop working correctly".
I have checked the fixes and done everything recommended here https://games4theworld.forumotion.com/t857-the-sims-3-crashes-freezes-to-desktop-fix-updated-on-7-01-2014. But nothing has worked. I don't know what else to do. I really don't want to have to uninstall and reinstall everything. Any ideas? Thanks a lot

Hello,

Just to make sure, do you have the up-to-date version of the game? Have you applied the most updated Ultimate Fix? Even if you are sure you do, please follow steps 2-4 again: https://games4theworld.forumotion.com/t1171-must-read-how-to-install-the-sims-3-correctly . Run the game again to see if it works.

There are also many other causes that can lead to crashes, for instance, mods and custom content. Do you have any of them? Are you sure all of them are up-to-date and compatible? If not, remove them all and start fresh to see if the crash happens again. To remove all mods and packages, simply remove the folder "Mods" under C:\Users\(insert your account username here)\Documents\Electronic Arts\The Sims 3. To remove sims3pack content, go to "DCCache" under C:\Users\(insert your account username here)\Documents\Electronic Arts\The Sims 3  and delete all of the content, including files that end with .dbc and .ebc. Neighborhoods that do not come with expansions or the base game can be deleted by deleting all the content in the folder "InstalledWorlds" under the same directory.

You should also try to delete all the caches mentioned below, since corrupted caches often are the cause of crashes:

Good luck and let us know if these help!

Here are some solutions that worked for me:
CFF Explorer
Go to this website: w ww.ntcore.com/exsuite.php
Scroll down and click on "Download The Explorer Suite"
Install it
Open CFF Explorer as Admin (right click and click on open as administrator)
Click on "file" and then click on "open"
Go to your game installation directory (C:\Program Files (x86)\Electronic Arts\The Sims 3\Game\Bin)
Double-click on TS3W
Now click on File Header
Click on "Click here" near "Characteristics"
Tick "App can handle >2g address space"
Now click on file again
Then click on save
DO NOT OVERWRITE THE ORIGINAL FILE. CLICK ON "NO"
MAKE A BACKUP DIRECTORY SOMEWHERE AND PUT THE ORIGINAL FILE IN IT
Now close CFF Explorer
Go to C:\Program Files (x86)\Electronic Arts\The Sims 3\Game\Bin
Right click on TS3W and click on send to and then desktop
Now there is a file named The Sims 3 - Shortcut on your desktop
Right click and rename it to "The Sims 3 (No Launcher)"
And now run this file and... ENJOY YOUR GAME!
And If all of that didn't work.
WINDOWS 8 ONLY:
Right click on "The Sims 3 (No Launcher)
Click on properties
Click on "Compatibility"
Click on Run in compatibility mode and choose windows 7
And if it still isn't working
Right click on The Sims 3 (No Launcher)
Click on properties
Click on compatibility
Click on "Run As Administrator"
Click on "Accept"
And then on "OK"
Good luck and i hope that this works for you!

CFF Explorer is pretty much the same as 4GB patch, except it may be more reliable. If the OP has tried 4GB patch in the link he/she provided yet failed to launch the game without a crash, this probably means something else.

As far as I am aware, The Sims 3 is more than compatible to play on Windows 8 without compatibility modes. But of course The Sims 3 was previously designed to be played on Windows 7, so this is worth a try too.

All of your suggestions are pretty good, otherwise.

Another reminder: you should use a font color that matches the forum theme. Your post was quite hard to read because the font color collided with the forum theme.

Thanks for replying so quickly. I have the game updated to the latest version and I don't have any kind of custom content installed. I tried reapplying the fixes and the game still crashes right at the same time as before. I looked for all the caches you mention, but couldn't find any of the files on the list. Thanks again!

The caches I mentioned are located here: C:\Users\(insert your user account name)\Documents\Electronic Arts\The Sims 3. Let me know if you still cannot find them.

I looked for the caches in that folder, but I couldn't find any of the files you mention. Inside the chache folder, there is only one file: TCC_Version.
Inside the thumbnails folder, there is also only one file: Thumbnail_Version
There are no folders named: featureditems, DCCache, WorldCaches, IGACache, or DCBackup.
I haven't downloaded any sims/pets.
Then I did a search for all the other files and it turned out empty.
Can you think of something else?

I see. You were looking into the wrong folder. You were looking into C:\Program Files\Electronic Arts\The Sims 3, while I told you explicitly to look for C:\Users\(insert your user account name here)\Documents\Electronic Arts\The Sims 3.

Or in short: Documents\Electronic Arts\The Sims 3

Please don't mix up these 2 folders because they are entirely different.

I am starting to suspect that your old save game is corrupted. See if you can run the game a completely new save, and then save and exit the game? After that, run the game with the same new save and see if the problem persists.

If it does, let us know.

Post by Guest Thu 04 Sep 2014, 17:57

I started a new game in another city and now it is working fine. Do you know if there is a way for me to keep my saved game? I've had that sim for a while and I wouldn't want to lose everything.
Thank you so much for taking the time to answer all my questions.

Hello there,

To recover your save, first of all, you need to make sure you know the name of the save. Then, open the folder C:\Users\(your user account name)\Documents\Electronic Arts\The Sims 3\Saves. Delete the folders that ends with ".sims3.bad" and ".sims3" and are named after your save. After that rename the folder "(your save name here).sims3.backup" to "(your save name here).sims3". Run the game with your old save and see that works.

If that doesn't work, please let us know.

Hello ceciliaines,

Just a small thing to add: I'd strongly recommend that you regularly backup your folder "Saves" (located in My Documents/Electronic Art/The Sims 3), to a safe location, like an external harddrive.

Depending on how often you play, make regular backups accordingly, to avoid too much loss of in-game progress. That said, I'll close the topic now. If you have any other questions, feel free to open a new thread.

Have fun ! Very Happy
