Hello,
It works with retail copies downloaded from Origin. Steam works differently.

Hello,
Unless you can actually confirm the game shows up under Computer > Remove or add a program (Something like that) - search for "The Sims 3" there. If the base game shows up in that list, you should be able to get it to work, if it doesn't show up, I'm afraid you'll have to use a non-modified torrent version instead!

Re: Making downloaded expansion pack workable with STEAM
Hey guys!
IF you still have problem installing expansions packs with The Sims 3 steam version I might have a solution.
I guess the problem is that the steam version is named differently, like many other steam version games.
The publisher of the steam version is called "The Sims Studio", not Electronic Arts!
So you just have to download and install the base game (not the steam version)
And then install expansion packs, use the fix and make sure to copy the fix and crack to the steam version folder

Hello ermahgraves and welcome,
This is an ancient thread, but OK. The reason the Steam version doesn't work, to my knowledge, is because Windows doesn't recognize it as a "separate" game. Hence, you cannot add pirated expansions to it, because an error message would show up, telling you that the base game couldn't be found.
Alternative solutions include pirating the base game, or even using a bought base game (be it the retail disc version, or even the Origin download version).
