Sims 3 and the EA Download Manager
Is there an alternative to using EA's download manager to install the expansion packs for the Sims 3? I'd rather not risk connecting to any official servers or what have you.
I got this from step 7 in the World Adventures:
I got this from step 7 in the World Adventures:
7. When you applied all the Updates, open The Sims 3 Launcher. You'll be prompted to Download
the EA Download Manager if you haven't already Installed it. So, if you don't have it, Install
it. When you've Installed the EA Download Manager, click on 'Refresh' on the Game Updates -tab.
A pop-up will appear, telling you that there's an Update for you Game. Click 'OK' to Download
and Install the Update.

There's actually no need to Install the EA Download Manager at all, I think. But when you want to Update you'll need it. There is no danger in connecting to official websites, since they can not track you down.

Re: Sims 3 and the EA Download Manager
Okay, I'll see if I'm able to install it without the download manager.
But I'm getting a new problem now with patching The Sims 3 for WA. When I try to run the Sims3_1.2.7.00002_from_1.0.631.00002.exe patch in the Crack 3 folder, I get a 'dfc-gorilla Error, invalid file found.'

If you're using a retail version of The Sims 3, skip the steps (WA) where you have to apply the Updates from '# Crack 3'.
If you used any mods, delete those and apply the patches.

Re: Sims 3 and the EA Download Manager
Have you edited the registry and the SKU -file?
Yes, changed it to 2. I've followed all of the instructions and haven't had a problem until now.

I'm using the games4theworld version - I've tested it and that download works just fine. Originally, I had downloaded one of Razor's versions when it first showed up on TPB, but decided to uninstall it and deleted all the files with it. I had also gotten some of the store items off TPB, but I'm sure I've deleted everything before installing your version.
The only other thing I've noticed is in Program Files, there are two Sims 3 folders under Electronic Arts, just named 'Sims 3'(0.98 GB) and 'The Sims 3'. (5.50 GB)

Re: Sims 3 and the EA Download Manager
Aha, I think I got the problem.
Open the "Crack 1" folder and start the "sims3patch.exe". When you click next, you'll see a path shown. Change it to: C:/Program Files/Electronic Arts/The Sims 3 or for Windows 7: C:/Program Files (x86)/Electronic Arts/The Sims 3
The Updating should work now.
Ps. You can delete the other "Sims 3" folder in "Electronic Arts".

Re: Sims 3 and the EA Download Manager
I've patched it(and deleted the other folder), but still get the same error. I also tried using the other Crack 3 patches to see if they'd work, but get the same problem. Should I just go ahead and install WA without the patches?
Would installing High End Loft Stuff & Ambitions fix this?

Re: Sims 3 and the EA Download Manager
No, it won't work withour the patches. I recommend you do the following;
First backup all your savegames.
1. Uninstall The Sims 3 completely.
2. Restart your PC.
3. Reinstall The Sims 3 (I prefer Games4theworld version).
4. Install WA.

Re: Sims 3 and the EA Download Manager
Worked like a charm, all of the Crack 3 & 4 patches installed correctly. I also decided to just install EA Manager, and the updating was going fine until this:
I remember reading somewhere that High End Loft Stuff/Ambitions could fix the update issue, but I'm not sure. Edit: Before the manager successfully updated the game to 1.12.70.006002, but still said it was incompatible and needed to update.

And what if you uninstall EA Download Manager and try again?

Re: Sims 3 and the EA Download Manager
Uninstalled EADM, restarted & retried. Now I get a "CRC Error: The file C:\Program Files\Electronic Arts\The Sims 3 World Adventures\GameData\Shared\DeltaPackages\p02\DeltaBuild_p02.package doesn't match the file in the setup's .cab file. THe medium from which you are running the setup may be corrupted; contact your software vendor." Retrying gives the same problem, and ignoring just brings up the old invalid file error.

You know what, I recommend you contact our Live Support through www.games4theworld.org when "Online" and ask them to reinstall the whole thing for you. Correct this time. They'll probably get it to work for you.

Re: Sims 3 and the EA Download Manager
No need, I finally got it, and the rest of the expansions to work. Had to uninstall & delete everything, then download them again and reinstall following the instructions exactly. Thanks for the help & the download!
Edit: Just one more question, and I promise to stop bothering you folks xD - would it be safe to download unofficial custom content from, say, the Mod The Sims website with your guys' version?

Well, I'm not sure, but the mods should work. Bút if you do so, you're not able to update anymore, because you'll get an Invalid File error. So be sure you have a backup of the files you're replacing.
Feel free to open a new topic if you have got any more problems or you just want to have fun on this community, for now, topic closed.
