Sims 2 failed to find compatible direct x. [SOLVED]

I recently had to reinstall windows 7 on my computer.  I installed all sims 2 expansions and stuff packs.  When I try to launch the game, I get the error that direct x is not installed.  I can play the game if I run it in windowed mode.  Sims 4 runs fine and sims 3 runs fine but gives me the error it didn't detect my graphics card, but the game launches fine.  I installed my graphics driver, I don't know what else I can do.  Before the reinstallation of windows, all of my games ran fine.  Any help is greatly appreciated, thanks so much.
