Windows 10 problem after upgrading from 7. [SOLVED] Empty Windows 10 problem after upgrading from 7. [SOLVED]

Post by Guest Tue 01 Sep 2015, 17:16

Hi all,

After Upgrading my laptop to Windows 10, a quite few problems arised
My PC had no problems with installing and was done in like 10 mins (after I got the mail I could install it, tho), but this didn't happen to my laptop.
Before the mail, it got suck at 42%, which didn't happen anymore after I got my mail. It did get stuck at 99%, but after pressing the power button, I was at the same place as when it was done on my pc, it took me like 4 hours in total to get there, tho, including the re-downloading of windows 10 via the Windows Update. (This was 2 days ago)

Now it finally got installed, problems arrived that I can't seem to get fixed.
1. My computer is much slower now (starting up internet, opening folders)
2. Programs like Word/Excel ofter get stuck (usually after I try to copy something to it)
2.1. Doesn't recognise my Extern Hard Disk, while the hard disk does recognise it has been connected.
3. After I close off windows (the good way) it restarts itself
3.1 when that happens, something random stops working (last time it was my mouse)
3.2 After I use the power button, this problem is gone.  It still does happen...
3.3. Restarting takes way longer than it should
4. When I try to revert it back to Windows 7, it doesn't get further than "it won't take long"
Windows 10 problem after upgrading from 7. [SOLVED] Proble11
5. I'm sure there are more problems, but these are the main ones I currently found out.

I have not deleted Windows.old

I've got no clue what I should do, my last resort is setting it back to Factory Settings (I'm not even sure that'll works...) Help

Greetings,

Mgtwan

Hello,

I noticed some of the same things myself, after upgrading from windows 8.1.
I noticed that a lot of settings that I had tweaked, had reverted to "default" after the upgrade, so it might be a good idea to check your settings and see if you can't speed things up a little. It's also a good idea to update your hardware drivers.

This might already speed things up and fix your hardware issues.

What kind of settings are you talking about that could speed things up? I don't think I did any tweaking while I was on Windows 7.
Can you recommend me any good (free) driver update programs or where I can find the official site for all?

Edit 1: I went to my school's ICT guy and he told me the install was probally interrupted and thus partly/broken installed.
He advised to do the clean install following the guide of:

But I was wondering that if I do this, which he wasn't sure either in my case, if it would also keep/fix my drivers.

Me and the ICT guy also went to the Toshiba website, but it seems they're not supporting my version anymore (Satalite L750D/L755D).

Hello,

I can't say I'm sure either lol. But.. I don't think it'll fix your drivers to be honest, you'll have to do that manually.

It's unfortunate that your model laptop is no longer supported, I'm wondering though, what are its specs like?
It's not that much of a problem that the manufacturers website no longer supports your version, but you can still get drivers for your hardware by finding out what make&model the individual parts are. I don't doubt that hardware manufacturers will stll have drivers available for your individual pieces, even if Toshiba no longer provides them on their website.

Hi there,

If you're not sure about the hardware, you can use the free Speccy ( www.speccy.com ) to find out what hardware is in your machine.

It is, of course, possible that the manufacturer does not have any drivers for newer operating systems.

Hi,

Thanks for your reactions Smile

Me and the ICT-guy did the install (with keeping my stuff on D:/) via the USB by putting that first at the start-up. After waiting quite a while, it got installed.

However, before that, my patience ran up and wanted to go home, accidently putting my laptop on stand-by modus. Tried a few things but nothing happend so I just went to my car and did a last check before driving off.
Somehow it started up again and I could do the settings. After doing that and I got on my desktop again (all clean exept D:/), Installed chrome and then went home.

Not soon after I got home, the same problems started again. Couldn't install Dropbox/Microsoft Office, restarting took longer than my patience and the mouse didn't work after plugging it out once and back in. I checked if I could reset it back to Windows 7, but that option was no longer there.

Around 5 PM, I started the reset via the USB again, but now also cleaning D:/, but it has been stuck at 'resetting this PC 99%' for quite some time now...

I guess it's time for a new laptop, although I'd love to keep it another 2 or 3 years.

Edit: Okay... my patience ran up after waiting another hour at 99%, now I got 2 windows 10 on my computer, which both doesn't work...
What can I do to fix this and delete the 2nd Windows 10?

Hi,

Uh oh, that's a lot of bad luck at once. I hope you have a backup of the files that were on D:\.

I don't know what the Windows 10 installation looks like, but I assume it looks the same as other Windows installations.
When you boot from the disc or USB disc, you will go through the installation settings. At some point if will ask you on which drive you want to install Windows. Choose "Advanced options", or something like that. Delete all the drives. MAKE SURE THAT YOU HAVE BACKUPS OF ALL YOUR FILES BEFORE DOING THIS, of course.

Now you can start making new partitions again. For example, you can make 2 partitions, where one will be C:\ and one will be D:\. (Drive letters will be assigned later)
So create two partitions with both your desired size. After doing so, select the partition on which you want to install Windows; this will automatically become your C:\ drive. Make sure it has enough space for Windows and other programs and updates!
Click Next and let is install. You've now done a "clean" Windows installation.

Can it be a hard disk issue? Have you checked the S.M.A.R.T. values recently? No weird errors?

I did the install, deleted all drives exept the one containing OEM. The install went fine, although I had to look up a random windows 10 key. Me and the ICT guy installed some drives that wasn't installed/working, put on the new AMD driver for my videocard (Without Raptr, ofc). Found out via the 'canyourunit' app that Net 3.5 couldn't get installed so we also fixed that. We fixed it so I got my 2 harddisks again (had only 1 (like 300gb) after the installation)

The only thing I need now is a working Windows 10 key (so I can customize and such) Any advice of where I should get it?

Hi again,

Glad to hear everything so far is working fine(-ish). Smile
I don't know about the product key. If your laptop originally had Windows 8 on it, the Serial Key is "coded" into the laptop itself, and should be automatically recognized by the operating system.
If you had a retail copy of Windows 7 installed on the laptop before, you should be able to use that code to activate it. Because, from what I know, Windows 10 migrates the serial key from the old operating system.

If all above does not apply to your situation, or does not work at all, you can always look for a "Windows 10 Activator". I'm pretty sure there are Activators available already. Those can activate your copy of Windows 10.

Windows 10 problem after upgrading from 7. [SOLVED] Empty Re: Windows 10 problem after upgrading from 7. [SOLVED]

Hi,

The thing is, due to my problem, corrupt installation and/or deleting all drives (exept OEM), It completly lost my key (Not even in my BIOS).
I have no legal way to revert my computer back to Windows 7 as I didn't get any CD when I bought it. It got pre-installed and I do have the licence under my laptop, I just can't use it to activate it.

I found a site: http://www.alltechbuzz.net/windows-10-product-serial-keys-technical-consumer-preview/
where I got a licence Key I could use. However, I accidently got the pro version and can't get it reverted back...

Anyways, got any recommended 'activators' I should use, which truly will make activate Windows 10?

Edit: I checked the KMSpico website and when downloading it, the program includes some random crap with it (atleast they say which ones, unlike some others 'Kuch' PowerIso 'Kuch'). But should I just try it out? The responses seems legit.  Censored

Edit: Nope! bad idea. got loads of crap on it and Windows defender stopped working Sad

Do not post links to warez sites please, it is not allowed for normal users here. I censored your link.

I myself used the Microsoft toolkit (version 2.5.3), and after configuring avast + Windows Defender, to ensure they don't mess with the activation, I got my own Windows 10 Enterprise activated. I'll assume it will work for the other Windows 10 versions too.

If you can't find the toolkit on your own, I will see to uploading it myself.

Sorry about that (there also were some others with the same name, so I wanted to say which one I was using)

I'll check it out after I re-installed windows again, as I think I corrupted my own computer with this program. I only installed a few programs I need to use for school, so I won't miss much Smile

Thanks for your advice and I'll let you know if it worked or not.

Hmm... After reïnstalling it, without putting any product key in, my Windows has now been activated.
Thanks for all the help and advice Smile

Mod edit: problem solved, topic closed. Smile
