Unable to play anymore

I know there was a new update not too long ago and I read that the ultimate fix can't be updated (or something) to the latest update, but does that mean I can't play anymore?

The last week or so my games have been crashing a lot, sometimes I can play for a while before it does, sometimes I can barely play at all. Now I'm not getting any further than to the first loading screen (before the main menu). I've been checking the crash reports these last two or three days and they all say that there's a new update for my games, but I can't update it.

So is there any way around this at all? Or is this it? I just can't play the game any more unless I somehow get the money to buy the games?

It really sucks if I can't play anymore, I'm really enjoying this and I was in the middle of a fun challenge, so I'm a bit bummed that I have to end it like this.

Hello again,

The post I made, that you are now referring to, is ONLY relevant for people who own the base game of The Sims 3 on Origin. If you have a pirated Sims 3 that is on patch version 1.67, then you're fine. Smile

If you are experiencing crashing problems, you should have a look at these 2 forum topics here first of all:

Following that, I'd suggest to clear out the cache files in Documents\Electronic Arts\The Sims 3. These cache files are:

CasPartCache.package (Create-A-Household Cache)
compositorCache.package (Buy/Build Mode Cache)
scriptCache.package (Custom Content and Mod Cache)
simCompositorCache.package (New Sims and Skin Cache)

Simply delete those files. There should also be a folder named Currentgame.sism3. Please go inside it and if there are any contents then delete them. After that re-start your game again and see what happens. Good luck for the moment !

Oh, okay then! :] I just thought that since the crash reports said that it needed updating, that it was the reason for the crashes.

I have deleted the cache files and I also factory reset, but it was after that that the game wouldn't open. I'll try again and see what happens. I'll check out the links as well, thanks!

I haven't had any major problems with the game after my last factory reset a few weeks before Christmas and I've been playing almost everyday since then. It has crashed a couple of times here and there, but not as frequently as it has done this past week. I'm hoping I can fix it somehow.

I'll come back sometimes later to tell you if it worked or not.

So I did a factory reset again it worked for a bit. I managed to get into the game and I've been playing for a few hours, but I did crash just now. The crash report still says that the likely cause is because it's updates available. As I said in my first post, I have been able to play for a few hours before it crashed and sometimes I could hardly play at all, but it all started about a weeks ago. Is it possible that it's because of the updates that it keeps crashing? If so, how can I get around it?

I do have mods, but I've tested it without them and it still happened. Other than that, no CC, just store content.

Hello again,

The 1.67 manual patch should already give you the most essential update. But I also wrote this here:

Keep in mind though that people have been playing crash-free in the past without applying these older patches.

Have you also tried saving your sim family into the "library" in edit town mode and then creating a new savefile (in a new town maybe) - putting your sim from the bin there ?

Hm, I do have the latest patch though, and it has been working fine until recently, so I'm not sure what's wrong now.

I haven't tried that, but I will when I get back into the game at some point. Hoping that will help.

Yes, sometimes savefiles just glitch out and you may need to save your sims into the library and start afresh in a new town/new save. I myself have been using a savefile cleaner, when my game suddenly started crashing randomnly. But let's not get into too many details here, for the moment. Smile
