Can't Install sims 3 pak files

I apologize if this has been answered somewhere, I didn't see anything for mac users.

So I installed the base game and a few expansion packs from a friend's disks. I installed seasons through this site and now I can't install sims3pak type files for cc. I put the files in the correct folders as I did many times before installing seasons. I go to install them through the launcher and nothing happens, the usual window and progress bar that appear when installing sims3pak files doesn't show up! Is there a fix or a workaround for this or can I just not install sims3pak type cc files anymore?
