Sims 3 (My original copy of game) and downloading Sims Pets help

Well I been reading the stickied threats and I know I have to use the right version of stuffit etc.
My question is, do I still have to install Sims Generations in order for Sims pet to work? and is there a way I can make my Original sims game use the no disk to play?
