The Sims 4 on external harddrive?
I want to install Sims 4 to my external harddrive, but the installer redirects Sims 4 back to the C:Drive no matter where I tell it to put the game. My C:drive has limited space so I really want to use the external harddrive. Is it possible?

Yes, you can install the Sims 4 anywhere, an external drive, an USB-stick aso.Beatoften wrote:I want to install Sims 4 to my external harddrive, but the installer redirects Sims 4 back to the C:Drive no matter where I tell it to put the game. Problem with the G4TW download of the base game is that it will always (whatever you do) install in C:\Program Files (x86)\Electronic Arts\The Sims 4.
So, when you have enough disk-space on your C, install the base game only and then move the installfolder The Sims 4 to your external drive.
After that you can install the DLC's directly on your external drive.
In case you have not enough space for the base game, you can download ANOTHER BASE GAME where you really CAN decide where to install on your PC.
It's an .iso file so PowerIso or Daemon is required for mounting the .iso.

On a related note, in order to ensure system stability, you should make sure to have a "cushion" of several GBs (at least 2 or 3) of free space on C:. Also, yes, you can use Tarac's download, but apart from that: once you installed TS4 (from Games4theworld) with Get to Work + Get together + City Living, copy the install folder into a safe place. When you then need to switch computers or format the hard-drive you can simply copy back that install folder that you previously backed up. Will save you lots of time and hassle later on.
We are also planning on releasing a "[FIXED]" - basegame of TS4, but I was thinking of waiting at least until the toddlers update is out, so that such a fixed-basegame will automatically include the toddlers update.

So moving the install folder to my external harddrive won't hurt anything? The game will still work?

Yes, although you might have to make a new shortcut for your desktop from either TS4 or TS4_x86 at the new location.Beatoften wrote:So moving the install folder to my external harddrive won't hurt anything? The game will still work?

A lot of 'modern' cracked games are portable/mobile in the sense that their install folder can be moved freely without consequences. In some case (not in TS4), the install folder even includes the savefiles already, so you could put a game on a USB-flash, and continue playing on another computer.
