The sims 3 Generations & Town life stuff Installation problem

Hi, I Installed The sims 3 base game(G4TW) and then i read that i MUST install The sims 3 generation and/or The Sims Town life stuff or/and The Sims 3 Pets. So I tried installing Generations and during the installation a box popped up and said that the game has to be updated."Do you want to update the game now" I clicked yes and it started updating. I waited for about 2 hours but it disn't update. My computer isn't slow so I thin it should've updated faster. I can't cancel the updating,becase if I do the installation fails. What should I do?

If the installer updates fine do you have to apply the manual patch or can I just leave it update.

Hi, both the Pets and Town Life required updating with the installer, they both installed fine, I have now installed all the expansions but no crack has been added yet.
I was wondering if I need to apply the crack with the Generations, Pets and Town Life packs or forget those and just use the Ultimate fix?

P.S. These were all clean installs on a new system.
