The Sims 4 Patreon CC.
Hello everyone,
I begin from the point that I am new here and well I'm looking for proper place to put such..topic. I don't know where else to do that, since those sites, like sunsetsims.mustbedestroyed.org and svs.paysites.mustbedestroyed.org:8080 are gone and simscave shake the responsability to post paid stuff.
I guess everyone notice that nowadays many new cc creators like simpliacity, gramsims, ebonix and many others, put "their' stuff under adfly links and worse - patreon.
In my opinion, the stuff for sims games should not be taxed, especially knowing the fact that many of those popular "creators" steal stuff from Second Life and IMVU
So...my suggestion here is that those people who have paid stuff would share it here with other people if they can. I bet that would be really appreciated.Like in good old times

Hello and welcome to the Forum,
I would compare that issue with those people, who (attempt to) make a living by recording/streaming gameplay videos on YouTube or similar platforms. Something that may "look" dubious to some people, but then again. It's a means of making at least some money, in an economic system that is increasingly eroding on so many levels. Politics aside, I believe we all would attempt to do the same if we needed the cash. G4TW also uses a bunch of adfly-links to help cover for server costs.
As for your concern, if people want to share stuff I suppose they will do so. Either on G4TW or similar platforms.

Re: The Sims 4 Patreon CC.
If people spend all of their time creating mods or cc, i see no problem with it. they should be paid for their hard work. especially when it comes to the sims. imagine a world with no cc or mods for The Sims games. nobody would be playing it.
they create better features and content than the sims creators in alot of cases, why shouldnt they get paid for better quality work. Just my opinion.
Many creators who use patreon usually just pre release stuff for testing anyway on patreon, and at some point when the creation is stable then release it to the public.
To all you modders and cc creators out there, if you can be your own boss and build a successful career off your creations, i say chase your dreams and go for it.
The sims games would be nothing without you and all the hard work you put in. Thanks for all you do.

Re: The Sims 4 Patreon CC.
Hard work? Ripping meshes from another games and represent them as their own. Not. It's easy. I do it myself too, but...I don't put other people stuff under pay links, because it is theft.Misfit203 wrote:If people spend all of their time creating mods or cc, i see no problem with it. they should be paid for their hard work. especially when it comes to the sims. imagine a world with no cc or mods for The Sims games. nobody would be playing it.

My point is not just share stuff but fight agaist this corruption. To steal from a thief isn't crimeat any rate.

I believe Misfit's point was primarily aimed the act of creating CC itself - in an "honest" way.
While I am of the opinion there are probably better platforms to advance your agenda, rather than on a Forum that is mostly just frequented by people needing support on cracked PC games...I digress for the moment, as long as discussion is kept civil. You seem very adamant about the issue, yet I wonder if there was a reason you did not (directly) highlight names of CC creators who supposedly steal? So that people can make up their own minds, and thereby maybe also connect more easily to your ideas?
You did mention a few creator names in your opening post. Are these also alleged "culprits" in your opinion? (sorry if that question is weird or I missed anything, but from the way the opening post was phrased, I didn't feel this point came across very clearly).

Re: The Sims 4 Patreon CC.
ok... just to clarify.. yes, im referring to actual creators. not sites that steal everyones stuff and sell it like pandora sims does.
but im not saying dont share things. i understand what its like to be broke, i have no income whatsoever. just saying i have no problem with creators receiving donations from people willing to make them if their doing honest work.

uhm uhh, most of visit to g4tw is for cracked games, the sims 4 is no exception, although its free apart from adfly that is, it's still a hardwork of at least hundreds of people from EA and we steal them, so to complain that some cc creators or thief that taxed whatever they make or steal is actually funny, because we do the same , its free for us but its also stealing ,lol, of course if you have legit games then that would be different story, no offense intended

JohnnyTheThird Its ok to steal, just dont sell what you steal, cause thats breaking the law.
Theres just some lines even pirates just shouldnt cross.

Exactly. To share stuff for free isn't such big deal, but request money for it...well it's really gross.Misfit203 wrote:JohnnyTheThird Its ok to steal, just dont sell what you steal, cause thats breaking the law.

Re: The Sims 4 Patreon CC.
I get what you're saying, and I totally agree, but not all creators steal everything. I'm on a forum with creators who spend a good chunk of their lives making mods to make TS4 and other games enjoyable. They come up with their own meshes, their own animations, they write the code for it. They deserve to get paid. Like Misfit said, they release an early version for their patreon users then later on release it for free.

With that being said, maybe it's also an idea to bring up the situation on the Forum here. Thus far, we opened a section for user-made The Sims 3 content, labelled The Sims 3 Exchange. A similar section for The Sims 4 stuff may follow.
We "assume" that submissions are created by the user making these posts. In case parts of the creations utilize CC from other people, we prompt users to give proper credit to the original creators. And of course, we do not allow regular users to utilize their own adFly on Forum links here. But as for the moral aspect...let's say if someone sent me an e-mail or PM about "the user who made this Forum post on G4TW actually stole the creation from me", I most likely wouldn't care. I get that from a moral standpoint this is a serious issue for (some) people, but as for the actual work on the Forum here I really can't be bothered to "investigate" such complaints. I have better things to do than that, and yes, I freely admit that. Besides, I imagine it would be tough and time-consuming to find out if something was stolen. It may not be possible at all, in some cases. Beyond that our Forum is focused largely on PC games themselves, not so much on user-made custom content. If we were more of a modding/CC community maybe I would think differently.
I suppose we could "make a moral statement". But as for me I'll leave it at the basics that I outlined in the previous paragraph, with respect to the G4TW Sims 3 exchange.

Re: The Sims 4 Patreon CC.
was thinking about what was said about imvu products.
wish i could have my imvu inventory converted to the sims 4 lol.
been an imvu user since 2007, spent shameful amounts of money there over the years. lol
i didnt so much use imvu for the social aspect like alot of people, i was in it for the creativity. i loved making female avatars. theres alot of imvu items that blow away the quality of sims 4 cc.
here's some avatar photos i took on imvu if anyone's interested.

someone needs to convert the million+ pages of imvu shop to the sims 4. just saying lol

Another related question: to what extent does a new creation have to resemble the original one, in order to constitute "stealing"? (a question that tends to be contested in certain real-life areas as well, such as patent law). Is there a uniform opinion on that, or at least something that resembles a semi-consensus? I doubt it...

Re: The Sims 4 Patreon CC.
alot of imvu creations, if not most are based on derivables. basically untextured meshes. you pay a fee to use the derivable, add your own textures. you then add it to shop, the creator of the derivable gets a cut of your sales as does imvu as well. textures are supposed to be original creations, but if i had to guess, i'd bet atleast 50% actually come from google. though my gut tells me that percent is likely much higher. nobody actually verifies where these textures come from.
so to me the thought of imvu items being stolen and converted to the sims is kinda humorous cause its more than likely that some part of that imvu item is also stolen to begin with.
though i actually didnt think it was possible to convert imvu content to sims because imvu filetypes use some kinda of encryption or something that cant be converted. or maybe the file format isnt usable by any other software, i forget which. i might be wrong, but i did actually google if it was possible to export items and then tried to see if there was a way to convert them to be used in the sims, but my search came up empty. this was like 2 years ago though. its possible i didnt search deep enough, or that a way has since been found to do it. idk.

Thanks again as usual for the background info Misfit! Although (I guess I should have made it more clearly before), my previous question was mostly aimed at the original poster in this thread, and not so much at you.

Re: The Sims 4 Patreon CC.
Adding a further dimension to the issue, The Sims-franchise games traditionally don't offer a particularly wide range of optical customization options. Sure you have these tables, sliders and whatnot. But even if you think you invested a lot of time into fine-tuning these options, it still feels as if most sims can be divided into maybe a dozen different "models". Maybe fewer?
The mathematical range of customization options in those games - even with CC sliders and what have you - is not as great as the average sims-player may think it is. Now, given the popularity and spread of the game (let's not forget as well, that as of currently there isn't really much competition for EA in terms of general "life simulation" games), it is perfectly possible that two or more sim-players in this lovely world will actually have the same ideas about the final look of a sim. Cheekbone-height, lip sizes, neck length, etc. And yes, that is perfectly conceivable without these people having "stolen" any ideas.

This here is interesting (emphasis in bold red color):
Emma's Simposium wrote:We have one goal here at Emma's Simposium website, and that is to help share as many of The Sims 3 & The Sims 4 pay &/or patreon files with everyone for FREE!
Since Emma and her team at Emma's Simposium Blog is being bullied, threatened and harassed. We thought it was time to put these facts on this website, so that those who are coming after Emma and her team will know that this website is separate from Emma's Simposium Blog
The download links for all new content will be updated (Except for March 25, 2018). Please be patient for the new content, we delay publishing content to ensure the anonymity of those who share their files.
That someone would actually go to the length of checking transaction/purchase logs and comparing that with the release of said items on certain piracy sites. But the delay is a good move, although it is sad to see that necessary.
I am willing to understand that (certain) creators rely on selling these items to as many people as possible, mostly for the reason of gathering some extra cash. But...threats?
Material one would normally expect to find only in some mafia or witness protection-themed movie.
