Mods just won't work!! Empty Mods just won't work!!

Post by Guest Wed 14 Feb 2018, 20:47

For the last few days I have been trying to install mods but it's just not working. I've tried to follow everything I could find and still nothing is showing up on my Sims game.

I'm on Windows 10. I have put the Mods folder in the Documents/ElectronicArts/TheSims3 folder and in there I have put the Resource.cfg file, Overrides folder and Packages folder. In the Packages folder I've put the no intro mod so I could see if it would work. Everything is unzipped and I've also deleted all the cache, and still it won't work and I don't understand why. I've tried the Mod The Sims framework, I've tried setting it up myself, different Resource files and mods but nothing works. I've already checked and there isn't a problem like the file's name being Resource.cfg.cfg or anything like that.

I've also tried deleting the TS3 folder in documents and loading the game so it could maybe make a new one but my PC just fell out when I would try to create a new game. Also my saves aren't in the Saves folder in my The Sims 3 Documents folder which makes me question if I did something wrong (I downloaded the game and expansions from Games4theworld) and if I should reinstall it.

Also after playing for a bit, no new cache files are made in my documents the sims 3 folder.

My resource file says this by the way:
Priority 501
DirectoryFiles Files/... autoupdate
Priority 1000
PackedFile Overrides/*.package
PackedFile Overrides/*/*.package
PackedFile Overrides/*/*/*.package
PackedFile Overrides/*/*/*/*.package
PackedFile Overrides/*/*/*/*/*.package
Priority 500
PackedFile Packages/*.package
PackedFile Packages/*/*.package
PackedFile Packages/*/*/*.package
PackedFile Packages/*/*/*/*.package
PackedFile Packages/*/*/*/*/*.package
Priority 499
PackedFile Test/*.package
PackedFile Test/*/*.package
PackedFile Test/*/*/*.package
PackedFile Test/*/*/*/*.package
PackedFile Test/*/*/*/*/*.package
Priority -50
PackedFile Probation/*.package
PackedFile Probation/*/*.package
PackedFile Probation/*/*/*.package
PackedFile Probation/*/*/*/*.package
PackedFile Probation/*/*/*/*/*.package
Priority 500
PackedFile DCCache/*.dbc

I would really appreciate it if someone could help me!!

//EDIT

Well, I think I found the problem if there's anyone out there with the same problem:

I could open and save my saves but there wasn't any saves document in the folder, this had me so confused because I didn't know how it was possible for there to be no save files and me still being able to play. This is when I remembered that when I installed The Sims 3 I had to go to my administrator account because I couldn't do certain things like update the game on my normal account. So I went to my administrator account and there I found another Electronic Arts file that does have my saves documents. I also have to start my TS3 game by giving my administrator password so this is why I thought that the documents might be on that account.

I am now going to try and put the mods in that Electronic Arts folder and update if it worked.

Edit: It worked!!!! After multiple days of sitting behind the computer and scanning all over the internet it finally worked! I hope this could maybe help someone in the future with the same problem <3

Mods just won't work!! Empty Re: Mods just won't work!!

Hello and welcome to the Forum @DinaB,

Thanks for sharing this! To be honest I have never heard about such an issue...but I am aware of a similar one, that is about these file/folder permissions, but in the context of applying crack-files. I think we even have a guide HERE.

If you like, you could try playing TS3 again from the "original" Windows account (on which the mods didn't work), but with the following modification. Go to your Documents-folder, and right-click on "Electronic Arts". Go under Properties. Now:

Mods just won't work!! NmjqfRLRQjWDfIKDi8LExg

Then see if the mods are being recognized. Note that you could also try applying these permission settings, to the subfolder "The Sims 3" (under "Electronic Arts").

But no rush. Smile  You probably will want to enjoy the game now. In the meantime, have fun, and I'll leave this thread open!
