Split household bug

Hiya guys,
So my eldest sim graduated college and I plan to have him his own family. But whenever I split household and move this sim and transfer him to his new home, when I get back, he's missing. Even in the original family. He's missing from the family tree. The only option I do to get him back is to retrieve the last save. I dont know how household split works so please help me if I need to do or know something.
