Sims 3 - Black Screen after clicking "play" button on launcher

I recently installed Sims 3 Ambitions, Show-Time, and Generations after I fixed my computer so I didn't need to use Linux anymore (long story, not important.) So, I was excited to be able to play Sims again but then when I launched it up (that is, using the expansion packs that weren't to scratched up to play, getting a scratch remover soon) the game and clicked 'play" I got that black screen that appears before the game intro comes on. The only problem is that it just stayed black. The cursor became the loading cursor, and then it just became the normal one. After waiting for a while, I minimized the game and saw a message that had popped up.

Unable to start game.

Service initialization failed (0x039e8474)

("Okay" Button)

I press "okay", and it shuts down Sims 3. This happens every time I try to launch the game.

Another thing to add is that whenever I try to update the game, it does nothing... I click on the button to update, and it literally just does nothing. I'm updating it now, just I'm having to do it with a file off of this website.

My computer is Windows 7. Thanks

Are some fixes for the problem you have I found.
