Video Card/Windows 8 Problem?? Empty Video Card/Windows 8 Problem??

Post by Guest Mon 24 Dec 2012, 19:21

I've recently gotten a new laptop that has Windows 8 on it and decided to put Sims 3 on again but it's not working like before
I did me and my sisters laptop (it's a Windows 7) at the same time, the same way and hers is working just fine right now
But when I got onto the game on my laptop it only showed me this VVV and said something about not finding a video card and its just using the highest graphics in the meantime but I can't change anything because I can't see the setting menu either so I'm not really sure how to fix this

It's a known issue with Windows 8 [not really, but that's the easiest way to explain it]. It may never be resolved. In short, in Windows 8 you're forced to use DirectX11 - DirectX 9c is not compatible with it. Because of that, some issues are had with various hardware/software setups.

Hello there,

Some things to try, to be sure:

- Try this: https://games4theworld.forumotion.com/t859-the-sims-3-text-balloons-not-showing-missing-fix

- Backing up and removing this folder: Documents\Electronic Arts\The Sims 3\

- Updating your graphic card drivers. (If you can provide the following information, I can find the correct driver for you: 1. Graphic card model; 2. Operating system; 3. 32- or 64-bit)

Everything was already set to English on the games but I went and redid it anyway (just on the Sims 3 not expansions) and nothing changed

If I do this, could I just copy and paste the file to my Desktop or does it need to be completely removed?

Here's all the information you asked for (I hope):

Also, I don't know if this makes a difference but the launcher is saying this (which i don't know how to fix if needed):

Hello,

I don't think this is necessarily related to windows 8, there are issues between win 8, the graphics and the game, but they manifest themselves differently. We see this text issue on older OS as well.

You may try updating your graphics card, and redoing steps 2-4 on this page, and removing the The Sims 3 folder (copy, paste to a different location, then delete from the original location), but if that fails, reinstalling the (base) game might just fix your text issue.
After that, you may (or may not) encounter other graphical issues that we will help you fix when and if they occur.

You may ignore the store content patch. It only serves a purpose if you're using original, untouched store content and I assume you don't.

Oh, I was thinking it was the dark screen issue. Not used to people taking screenshots with a camera lol - my bad.

Hey ^^,
So I just bought a Asus with Windows 8 on it (i'll spare the details)
and the Sales Clerk told me that if I want to play high definition games I should do this:
1. Go on the desktop
2. Right Click
3. NVIDIA Control Panel
4.Manage 3D Settings
5. Global Settings--> Preferred graphics processor--> High performance NVIDIA processor

P.S I don't have the Sims 3 on my new computer (i'm on vacation, and I don't have my Sims 3 Retail CD, left it at home Razz) I'll try as soon as I get back at my home. (Wait 1 week Very Happy)d

Hello,

It'd be odd if that did the trick, but certainly worth trying.
Please let us know by then.

Enjoy your holidays in the meantime!
