Only 237 files downloading from the Sims 3 (BASE GAME)

I tried to download a version of the base game online and it failed, so I bought a retail copy -- but now the retail copy is only downloading 237 files when I'm sure the original is supposed to have something like 600. Also, whenever I try to download your expansions now, it says that I need to install the sims 3 first. Even though I have installed the sims 3, the retail copy. X.X Did I cause a glitch in my computer by trying to download your version of the base game, and how do I fix it?

Have you actually installed the sims 3 retail copy and test it out by playing it?
Did you buy it via Gametree?
