"The Sims 3 Stopped Working" After trying to install Pets?

I'm really sorry if I do something wrong here, I just registered.

This all started when I decided to download Pets, I got the fixed version and know how to use the cracks and everything correctly as I've done it many times before for my other EPs (Generations, University, Seasons, Island Paradise) which all worked fine.

I opened the launcher, clicked play and the screen went black as if it was about to start but then just said "Sims 3 has stopped working", thinking it was Pets that was the problem I tried uninstalling, reinstalling and a few things suggested through googling and looking on this site but the problem wouldn't go away.

So I decided to forget about pets, completely uninstall it and just play the game with the EPs I already had but I got the same "stopped working" sign after pressing play.

I've looked and looked at things to fix this problem, I tried all the suggestions I've seen on this site: DEP, 4gb patch etc and nothing is making the game work.

My friend said that my only option may be to uninstall and reinstall every EP and maybe even the base game, although I don't want to do that I will if it will work, but I don't want to go through all that unless I KNOW it will work, if I un and re install everything and this problem persists I will be at the end of my tether, I've been trying everything I can for the past 4 days and I'm just lost.

If your Windows is a 64-bit version AND if your computer has 4 GB of RAM or more, then focus on step #3 in particular. Download the "4 GB patch" from here. After downloading, double-click on that 4 GB patch and in the next prompt, choose the TS3W.exe in your base game location. Usually, that's C:\Program files(x86)\Electronic Arts\The Sims 3\Game\Bin. Wait for the message "executable successfully patched" and close the 4 GB patch.

Note that this method will not work if your Windows is a 32-bit version and/or if your computer has fewer than 4 GB of RAM. After doing that, go on with the rest of the steps. These instructions should be pretty self-explanatory.

Now go to My Documents/Electronic Arts/The Sims 3 and delete all contents inside the Currentgame.sims3 folder. Also, in My Documents/Electronic Arts/The Sims 3, delete the following stuff:

-CASPartCache.package
-compositorCache.package
-scriptCache.package
-simCompositorCache.package
-socialCache.package
-plus the contents of the folders "WorldCaches" & "Thumbnails"

Re-start the game then and see if anything improved. You may even turn off your anti-virus program completely before playing The Sims 3.

Thank you for responding. I've retried all of those things, except that I couldn't see a "WorldCaches" folder, I just don't understand why nothing is working Facepalm

Nevermind about the "WorldCaches" folder. Try un-installing the base game only, and then re-do the steps from #2 to #4 here:

Again, even if you say you "did all of that in the past already", make sure to follow these steps as precisely as possible. Next, go to your base game location, usually in C:\Program files(x86)\Electronic Arts\The Sims 3\Game\Bin. There, make a shortcut to the desktop from the TS3W.exe.

Use that shortcut then to start the game, and see what happens.

The thing is this: if you really did all of what I said so far correctly, then this trouble shouldn't be happening, but let's see. Good luck again !

Okay, I've un and re installed the base game and retried everything you suggested and I'm still having the same issue. The only thing I can't seem to be able to do is change the vertical sync option on 3D settings to "force off", it doesn't give me the option, it just has a drop box and the only option is on but considering I used to be able to play the game fine I don't see why it should be an issue now.

Every time I try to play the game I just get the same black screen and then it closes saying it's not responding, I don't know what else I can do, I've spent all day making sure that I've gone over everything. Sad

The only thing that may come to my mind is for you to update your graphics drivers. Then, go to My Documents/Electronic Arts/The Sims 3 and open the Options.ini file and look for the line fullscreen = 1.

Please change the "1" into a "0" and SAVE the changes to the document - and exit the file. Restart the game and see if that helped.
