Blank town selection screen when in game.

Hi all.

I downloaded the complete collection from the torrent, installed all expansions (and none of the stuff packs).
Going from the TS3W shortcut or whatever loads the game fine for me. Game goes through the reticulating splines loading etc, with 'In The Future' in the background.
When it got to the town selection screen, however, it came up with 'graphics card not detected, set to suitable resolution blah blah blah'.
However, when I clicked to select a town to load, the dropdown menu was blank. The new game option could be clicked, but did nothing. The options bit (the ... ) could be selected, but no text showed. I tried clicking the play button, tried selecting various things, but nothing happened.
Is there any way to fix this, at all?

Start by reinstalling the manual patch, followed of course by the crack from the fix.
Please let us know the result.
