Post by Guest Fri 04 Sep 2015, 10:51

hello guys,
so i recently bought 2 2GB RAM for my laptop same specs different brand 1st is kingstone and the 2nd is samsung i installed them in my laptop (Acer travelmate notebook 5742) and they worked fine but my problem is its says 4gb installed but only 2.39 Gb usable its a waste for one of them so what do you recommend doing what should i do, can i change the capacity to take at least 3GB?

Again my laptop specs:

Acer travelmate notebook 5742
i checked my bios and its supports up to 8 GB of RAM
i have windows 7 ultimate 32bit and i know that 32 can support up to 3.5GB

AFAIK 32bit OS support up to 4 GB of RAM. Minus the 0.25 GB system reserved RAM, you should have 3.75 GB of usable RAM.

Well, first thing you should do is take out each of the sticks (leaving only one) and see how much RAM shows. If they work correctly they each should show 1.75 GB of "usable RAM".

What he said.

Also, from another forum:
A wise person wrote:Yes they will, but there will be some speed loss. The crucial stick is 1333 speed and the Corsair is 1600. Just like a chain that is only as strong as it's weakest link, a computer is only as fast as it's weakest component. You can put the 1600 in along side the 1333, but the 1600 will be slowed down to 1333, so you will be getting extra ram, but not more speed.
