Got the base game as a gift, expansions won't work now?

I got the base game as a gift today through origin... now my expansions won't work? Will they not work until there is an update here?

What exactly is the issue you are having...? Why exactly is the game "not working"?

Probably you had the game already downloaded with EP's and now you've used the official Origin version.
As soon as you install the Origin version you will loose all pirated DLC's  (Still there in your installation-folder, but no longer accessible for the game).

The rules are pretty simple: Either you buy all your DLC's via Origin OR you go for the pirated ones. You can't mix them
I admit that you can have both versions in different folders but you can't combine them.

Example:
Base game - via origin
Get to Work - pirated
Get Together - pirated
City Living - via Origin

When you now play via origin, you only have base + City, Work/Together are rendered useless.
