Installing Sims 4 to external drive won't work. [SOLVED]
So I'm not sure if this is the right place to post this so forgive me if it's not. I'm currently trying to install my Sims 4 games to an external drive due to my computer not having much space at all. (Only like 250 gigs of space all together) Anyway. When I go to install it I select that I want it installed on the D drive which is the external, but when it's all installed it's installed itself to the C Drive anyway. How do I fix this?
Thank you in advance!

Re: Installing Sims 4 to external drive won't work. [SOLVED]
Most probably it is installed now in C:\Program Files (x86)\The Sims 4.
Rightclick on that folder The Sims 4 and select Copy.
Now go to your external HDD, look for a place or folder you want your Sims 4 in, rightclick again and select Paste.
When that's done you can delete the folder The Sims 4 from the original location on your C: drive

Everything that I've been reading said you can't just copy and paste like that. I'll try it out though, Thank you!

"Move too" might be a better option?

Hello and welcome to the Forum @mirandakelly11,
Yes, what the other users said. In addition there is also this more elaborate post:
https://games4theworld.forumotion.com/t19572-how-to-move-the-sims-4-to-another-partition-after-installation-fix
We are also planning to re-release a "FIXED" base game for The Sims 4, that will have these issues eliminated. But I can't tell yet when we will do that.

Re: Installing Sims 4 to external drive won't work. [SOLVED]
I had the exact same problem as you and I solved it by following a tutorial at tomshardware called 'Guide : Move software/games to another drive/partition without reinstalling'. I'd direct link but I don't have permissions yet. I have had zero issues thus far in about six or seven hours of gameplay. The program the tutorial uses is really simple and easy to use, and it's free. It's really just giving a GUI to something you can do in Windows via command line (I'm assuming you have Windows) and works from 2000 to 7. If you have 10, you can try the one on the makeuseof site called 'How to Move Installed Apps & Programs in Windows 10'.

Hello and welcome to the Forum @SarahK,
You can also move the install folder manually, which achieves the same. About the links, new users cannot post external links and e-mail addresses for the first week after registering, which is safety measure designed to reduce spam and other potentially unpleasant things (and yes, we had our fair share of these issues in the past).

Re: Installing Sims 4 to external drive won't work. [SOLVED]
Thank you everyone for your help! I ended up dragging and dropping the entire Sims 4 folder from the program files (x86) location to my external drive and that worked like a charm! Something so simple and I didn't even think to do it myself without being told to try it, haha.

Very well then. A lot of modern cracked games can be moved around different locations, if needed. That said, if you ever need any more support or advice on issues we can help with, feel free to open a new topic. Until then, have fun!
Problem solved, topic closed.
