Origin & cracked game question...
anyway to hide my repack from Origin?
I had 2 installs, my legit sims 4 games in c:\Program files (x64)\origin games\The Sims 4
& My fitgirl repack in c:\games\The Sims 4 FG.
I been playing fine for over a week, but out of the blue tonight, Origin opens up without my doing so. then it installs the new update to my c:\games\The Sims 4 FG directory, not to my Origin games directory.
now my repack install is screwed. it opens origin everytime i run it.
I swear i heard if you install them to 2 seperate directories they would get along fine, but i guess i was mistaken.
after that i tried to go back to zlOrigin again tonight, but that still keeps failing. why cant **** be easy anymore. damn i miss the old days of install, crack, play, forget.
//EDIT
Oh well, guess i'm going to bed early.

Re: Origin & cracked game question...
At least until now it was possible to have the game - legit & cracked - in two different locations, and be fine/done with it. I suppose if what you described is a real thing, you could keep a backup of your entire "The Sims 4" installation on an external source (hard-drive, USB-flash, etc.), and restore it if needed.
I don't know if putting the entire folder of the cracked game as "read-only" in the properties can help prevent this type of thing, but maybe someone is willing to test this. There are also potential solutions involving sandboxes/virtual machines (running the game in a "secured environment"), though that is a bit trickier. Other ways could involve installing the games on separate Windows accounts.
I myself haven't downloaded the new Origin update, but will be careful when doing so and make the necessary precautions. Thanks again for the heads-up Misfit!

Re: Origin & cracked game question...
I have 4 versions of the Sims 4 on 1 PC:
1. Legal Origin
2. ZLOrigin
3. G4TW
4. Fitgirl
The problem lies with Origin/ZLOrigin.
The first step is to prevent Origin from automatically updating.
(In Origin, click on the word Origin - left top and select Application Settings ->General)
Uncheck Automatically keep my games up to date.
Performing a manual update, make sure that you adjust the install folder in Origin to the version you want to update.
(In Origin, click on the word Origin - left top.)
Select Application Settings -> Advanced
Under Your games will be installed to the following location select either the location for legal Origin or ZlOrigin.
That selected location will be updated. (f.e. The legal Origin Game)
In Origin rightclick on the picture of the Sims 4 and select Check for updates.
After the update click on Delete all Game installers.
You can now change the settings in case you want another location updated. (f.e. The ZLOrigin location)
After the update click on Delete all Game installers.
Never insert a location for a pirated version.
Latest update Origin/ZLOrigin is version 1.32.1.1020

2. ZLOrigin

Re: Origin & cracked game question...
Thanks Tarac,
zlOrigin doesnt work for me anymore... major bummer, but oh well, anyways... back to the topic.
so here's what i ended up doing before your response, hopefully it works out.
i made a new user account.
uninstalled origin
uninstalled fitgirl repack.
i re-installed origin to the new user account.
i set permissions to Deny for my original user account on my c:\program files (x86)\Origin games folder as well as on my c:\program files (x86)\Origin folder as well.
i really know nothing about permissions and stuff other than that i seen them before when poking around my system, so figured i'd give it a try.
then i re-installed sims 4 fitgirl repack on my original user account and denied permissions to that folder for the new user account which Origin is installed on.
I'm now repeating the same process for the sims 3 games as well.
Hopefully at the end of all this it will end with me feeling smart and that i've learned something new lol.
I just assumed that if i block a folder on one user account, that any program connected to that same user account will also be blocked from that folder as well.
hopefully im right. time will tell i guess.
