Origin - RePacks and originals? Empty Origin - RePacks and originals?

Post by Guest Mon 17 Apr 2017, 02:31

My issue is a simple one - I bought Mass Effect Andromeda on Origin and was about to play it when I noticed its almost 50GBs. Since that is going to take me a little while to download I thought I could just try a repack version instead, since those tend to be lighter and faster to acquire. Razz Can I do some tweaks afterwards for it to fire up through my legit copy or is that not possible?

Thank you in advance!

Hello @IvoryOwl,

Most likely will have to (re-)download the game in Origin as well, though, and most "repacked" versions are not that much smaller from what I've seen. If you actually bought this game it may be more time-saving if you downloaded straight away from Origin.

Thank you for the reply @The_gh0stm4n!
I ended up waiting for it to finish on Origin, was merely curious it was possible at all. One of the reasons why I love repacks (aside form free games Razz) is that they can sometimes cut the GBs and wait by half. FitGirl is an awesome provider and all of her stuff is top-notch quality in that regard, games that are originally 40-50GBs getting compressed into 20GB.

Nevertheless, I think this topic has now been rendered useless. You may close whenever you feel like it. Smile

I had such a compressed pirated game myself downloaded, not sure whether it was from Mr DJ or FitGirl. Download size was 30GB, and the installation size at the end was almost 40GB. But the extraction of that thing and the installation took AGES. As a wise person once said: "no advantage without a disadvantage, and vice versa". The filesize of the items is smaller, but the tradeoff can be that the installation (decompression) time is longer.

I personally prefer it the other way round: better take more time when downloading, and then have an easy installation. Especially when I hypothetically have to re-install Windows, I would not necessarily want to deal with such a custom installer that takes a long time, again.

People with a slower download speed will certainly appreciate solutions like these, however. Smile

Edit: If I recall correctly, the game referred to above was Dragon Age: Inquisition.

Edit2: when you do have to re-install Windows, instead of using these custom installers you could also just backup the actual installation folder of the game, and any registry keys if needed. That saves time, and works for many 'modern' cracked games.

Origin - RePacks and originals? Empty Re: Origin - RePacks and originals?

Fitgirl is my favorite repacker too. her compression is the best out there and yes, it can be sometimes slow, but one good thing about her is she is constantly challenging herself to do better, not just in file size and compression but also in ways to keep size smaller yet install efficiently and faster. something she's been putting some effort into over the past year or so. plus her installations are i think the term is bit perfect and always reliable, if a release comes out with a crappy crack, she also refuses to repack it until something better comes along. the installer also runs some kind of check when install is complete to make sure everything is as intended.

so there are some downsides to her releases. she takes a few more days to release things than everyone else. installation may / may not be slow. and support isnt always her strong suit. lol. if you ask a stupid question that could have been simply answered by reading a few previous posts or thru a quick google search, you might not like her response. but one thing is for sure, she never skimps on is quality.

I've seen it. I can almost picture her having a giant stick with a world-wide reach with whom she beats people with... though I can't really blame her. If I had to deal with stupid people and stupid questions every day of the week I'd probably go mad too. Some even come off as rude and accusatory when chances are the issue is 90% their own fault or explained elsewhere. The latest pack I downloaded from her was an absolute pain to deal with though.

I wasted 3 entire days trying to get Fallout 4 to work... I re-downloaded the game 3x times from different hosts, installed it 3x times only to get at error at 93.7% (~3 hours installing), re-checked, re-hashed, read comments and troubleshoot guide... nothing. Turns out one of the .bins had a "filename" error that wouldn't align with the CheckFile's, all I had to do was copy-paste the correct path unto the actual file's name and replace it. I was soo happy but so tired at the end of it all... xD I didn't ask for help till the very end, fearful I would get an earful due to some stupid mistake on my part.

Quite late to the party, but why open a new topic here? Very Happy

In this instance, we would rather try going for the .rar file that is bigger in size, but which you just need to extract + play. If necessary, provide a separate reupload of the crack files (because if something does "go wrong", it's the crack files being purged by security software in most cases).

I know, I know. The reason most other uploaders use these fancy custom installers with funky music, cool logos and an integrated file integrity checker, is to some extent also due to a form of (intended) self-marketing. As for me personally though, I have come to avoid these super-compressed releases, by any repacker, because they rarely work for me; I end up with some error message. But yes, maybe it's indeed my fault....

Giving support is indeed not everybody's strong suit, and there is no reason to feel ashamed about it. My objection though with the websites of many fellow repackers is: if you are so fed up with repetitive questions that you cannot resort to other means than primitive brainfarts, why have the ability for users to comment activated at all? To garner a few more clicks, and a few cents more advertising revenue? I recall the 'old' Admin here emphasizing that "thank you-posts" were always welcome under our tutorials on the Forum here, while questions were to be ignored/deleted/edited.

Maybe these repackers kind of expect something similar from their own comment sections, namely appraisal messages from fans. But then again, if you accept one type of comment, then you have to find ways of dealing with the other type of comments as well. Even if it's by means of some auto-moderation filter. Or maybe these incendiary comments are made with the intention of garnering similar responses from fans, thereby maximizing clicks ?

Also, let's not completely forget the human dimension of all this as well. You can bet that the majority of people pirating things are either young in age, or overworked/frustrated adults looking for some distraction. Either way, these users are mostly not very savvy regarding these things. Yes, some can even get unfriendly. And yes, their attention spans and patience tend to be short-ish. As far as Support goes, you can basically go two ways: either full steam ahead, or not at all. Surely there could be some shades in-between, but that's not going to work well in my opinion.

What I find funny here is the implication of that person, that things would be seen even slightly different if the "idiotic comment" had not been within the first 10 messages, a.k.a. if that post had come as #11 or later. Then again, like I hinted above, I suspect these edgy comments are made to provoke responses from fans with a similar mindset ("what a stupid person!", "hahahaha, OMG!", "can't use the search function" etc.), to garner more clicks.

Plus, you can bet that if someone is inclined to make fun of another user in need of help, they have lots of problems on their own. But hey, at least by bashing on someone else they can feel better for a few seconds.

Origin - RePacks and originals? Empty Re: Origin - RePacks and originals?

Post by Guest Fri 26 Jan 2018, 00:25

I think what gets her going is it is known that she doesnt take requests. yet she is still always asked anyway.

another thing that gets on her nerves is the fact that she has a section called repack troubleshooting thats linked on the left side of every page which explains the most common issues with her repacks and how to resolve them, yet instead of people taking the inniative to read there or try google search, they automatically just ask first. when the problem has more than likely been covered had they only just looked for themselves.

Im not saying what she does is right, but being someone myself, who is also of little patience at times, i can understand being that she must see this stuff happen 100s of times a day. i think it would annoy me too.
