Sims 3 Freezes
Hi!
First, here's my specs:
Windows 7 home premium 64 bit, Intel Core i5-2450M CPU @ 2.50 GHz with 6.00 GB installed memory (RAM), 5.78 GB usable. My graphics card is Intel HD Graphics 3000.
I had all the expansion packs installed, but it would give me save error 12 and would freeze up at random. I could ctrl+alt+del>task manager switch back to desktop and back to sims, but it would freeze again and characters and objects would go all black and then Windows actually gave me the "Sims 3 has stopped responding..." message and exit the game. I've tried all the possible fixes, compatibility mode, run as administrator, ultimate fix, adding files to the dep, removing all mods, updating my graphics card, and uninstalling world adventures, as i've heard that can mess up the game. Also, i've tried installing the ep's in order. I'm not sure why this keeps happening, but it's really making me mad. Any help is greatly appreciated!!!!
Finally, i got the game to save, i believe after uninstalling WA, but i can't be certain. Who cares, no more error code 12!
If you need any more details, let me know!

Hello,
Is it like a crash to desktop, or do you have to shut it with task manager?
Do you have the latest game version?
Also, read this about save errors.

Re: Sims 3 Freezes
I have to exit with task manager. I'm pretty sure I have the latest version, 14.0.48.017001 is the full version #.
And yes, i've read that multiple times trying to figure it out via other posts. Thanks though!

Hello,
That's the launcher version though but I think you could be right that this correlates with the latest base game version.
Does it always happen when you play the same savegame, have you tried creating a new game just to test it?

Re: Sims 3 Freezes
I just tried to create a new family and halfway through the first character i was making it froze, so it's not a savegame problem.
On the family i have been using which froze each time, it's not a many generation family. I've read that if you have a lot of generations, the game is more likely to freeze. I have 2 grandparents, who i began the game as young adults who aren't dead yet, they had 2 kids, each had imaginary friends that i turned real, and then one of the kids got married and had one child. I don't know if that's too many and the game can't handle it? That would kind of suck, but since it freezes in CAS mode, i don't think that's why it's freezing.

Hello,
How exactly did you remove your Mods?
Also, try lowering the game's graphics via the in-game options, you never know.

Re: Sims 3 Freezes
Okay, i removed the entire Mods folder and it played longer, about an hour maybe and then it crashed to desktop. Whatever made it froze must have been a mod but i don't know why it crashed.

Re: Sims 3 Freezes
I'm on an ASUS laptop that i bought around April-May of this year. I don't think it has to do with overheating if that is a possibility...it doesn't get too hot unless i have it sitting in a pile of blankets while i'm using it, which i've learned not to do (:

My graphics card is Intel HD Graphics 3000, which i update regularly.
Not sure if these will help at all...
Anything else?

Re: Sims 3 Freezes
Hello,
No that should do it. Overheating can be an issue, if you have software that allows you to look at your laptop's temperatures, have a look after the game crashes.
It doesn't have to be the entire laptop. If one component, for example the graphics card, overheats the game will crash.
This program also displays individual temperatures of your laptop's components, in addition to giving you system information.

Re: Sims 3 Freezes
Lady ElDi: It doesn't give me a temperature for the graphics card..maybe i don't have sensors on it?
Temperatures at time of crash:
CPU: 54 degrees Motherboard: 60 degrees Hard Drives: 34 degrees
Admin: Device Manager>Display Adapters>Double click on intel graphics 3000>Driver>Update Driver>Search Automatically for Update.
It says it's up to date.

Hello,
Admin isn't going to find that acceptable I'm afraid
I think you're right about not having a sensor on the graphics card. The other temperatures all look perfectly fine though so lets forget about overheating.
I think Admin will grab you a link to graphics drivers next time he reads this thread.

Re: Sims 3 Freezes
Hahaha, alright. I just don't know how else to explain it. That's the steps i take each time i update it.
I also just tried to reinstall WA and was really hoping that'd make a difference because of the files it replaced to begin with but it didn't work. I'm going nuts trying to fix this..it's all i think about!

Re: Sims 3 Freezes
Hello,
I don't even know why they integrated that function, it never finds any updates anyway.
Please download and apply this update: http://downloadcenter.intel.com/Detail_Desc.aspx?agr=Y&DwnldID=21430&ProdId=3319&lang=eng&OSVersion=Windows%207%20Home%20Premium%2C%2064-bit%20version*&DownloadType=%0ADrivers%0A
Restart your PC afterwards.
There's another problem though. If your PC is showing the correct GPU, it means your laptop is using the GPU that is integrated in your CPU. Those aren't very powerful and especially not meant for playing games.
Try Speccy ( www.speccy.com ) and see whether it shows any other GPU's too. Because you can use a CPU graphic controller in combination with a separate GPU.

Re: Sims 3 Freezes
Oh. Well i feel dumb.
I updated it, and it went all the while i had my sim travel to egypt. I got back to the main town and played about 5 minutes and it crashed to desktop.
The only GPU Speccy shows in the "Graphics" tab is the Intel HD Graphics 3000. And Generic PnP Monitor (1366x768@60hz), which is the screen i'm guessing?

Hello,
Yes it is.
No need to feel dumb, most people don't know a thing about their pc's and most people think the device manager is a good way to update.
It went well during your sims' stay in Egypt? Hmm..
Maybe you would benefit from Errortrap.
