Unable to update Sims 3 to version 1.38

Hello,
A couple of weeks ago, I downloaded Pets and installed it correctly (with the ultimate fix). It worked fine. Now I have to update my Sims 3 game to version 1.38. I get the message (after it almost installed the update) 'invalid file'.
I read the instruction and downloaded the manual patch. But I don't know how to install the patch or what to do with it in my computer. Can you help me and tell me what to do with it?
Sorry for my bad English, I'm not from an English speaking country. Can you explain it in easy English?

You don't know what to do with the downloaded .exe patch?
Try double-clicking it.

The link on the page about the 1.38 updat led to an other program, which wasn't the ultimate fix. That's why I didn't understand how to install it.
Now I got the correct link and got the fix installed like I did earlier.

My game updatet, but now I can't play it, because it updatet to 1.39 (I didn't know that was something I shouldn't do). How can I uninstall this update? Because my game is asking for a disk and I don't have one.
