Game crashes as soon as house loads.

I've had all of the games installed on my laptop for quite a while now. Starting a few weeks ago, every time I try to load my family, everything goes fine for a few minutes, then the screen goes black and I get a pop up saying that "a problem caused the program to stop working" and windows tries to find a solution to no avail. I don't know what could have caused this. I haven't installed any updates that I can remember nor installed any new programs besides a few games.
