Ultimate Fix .. is Ultimate :) Empty Ultimate Fix .. is Ultimate :)

I am sure you have crosses a few posts from me about TSM and its issues, and I seemed to have run out of good luck with the Sims Franchise - I am usually the one saying everything worked just fine in every other game while it seems like the whole rest of the world is hitting bugs and CTD and it finally caught up with me.

It seems like I had every bug that anyone complained about as well as a few things happening that only seemed to be a problem on my computer. Not one to give up, I did just wait patiently, as asked until the Admin who is the Sims games expert got back... and voila! the ultimate fix in my book is the ultimate fix!

I realize that most of the problem lay at the feet of EA - never seen a fix it patch come out so fast for a Sims game - Not like they solved LN crashes in even weeks - but the horrid problems that the game install had even after the first update must have had a problem get past and into RTM and they missed that - to have gotten a fix out so fast. But I was having a few problems with the first ultimate fix such as the initial installation would not allow me to get an update from EA - the game kept saying it was patched... anyway

I followed the directions which included installing the game but not applying that crack, then following the ultimate fix instruction which gives you both a before crack for the game (which would let me see an update to install) and then applying the ultimate fix for the most recent patch.

Ah! my world is normal again (knocking on wood just in case I am jinxing myself) and my latest Sims works! but I have now played completely through the tutorial, and several hours past that even, and not so much as a frame rate slow downs, no graphic glitches, no crashing to the desk top or elsewhere, no delays ... it works as expected Smile

I know that some of this was flat out EA's fault and that second patch fixed a bunch of stuff they never should have allowed to get into a release but they will punish their own. And I would not have a great working game without the ultimate fix so my real thanks goes to this site Smile

Hello,

First of all, thank you for your post; people like you give us the strength and power to continue what we're doing.

I'll keep the The Sims 3 ánd the Medieval fix up-to-date whenever new fixes are released. Keep an eye on the "Update history" to see if it's updated already.

The first 2 updates of The Sims: Medieval (until 1.1.0) were indeed full of bugs. EA knew this and they worked "hard" for a new patch that'd fix all the problems. Well, it has been released now and most of the bugs are fixed. I've been playing the game for a while now - in Dutch - and the translation is... horrible, for such a popular game. It's full of typo's.
Anyway, I think they'll have their hands full on fixing bugs for a lóng time from now.
To be honest, I like The Sims 3 more than I like Medieval.

Again, thank you for taking the time to post your thankfulness; it's appreciated.
If you ever have any problems in the future, álways feel free to post them here on the Forum, so we can try to help you.

All toogether we're stronger Wink,

You're most welcome - I know people can be very loud when things are not working but when they get fixed they get too involved in the game to get back to posting the positive stuff too.

The one big downfall I think EA has with this game is that there is no way to save and re-start the tutorial from where you saved, you have to run it start to finish to get out of the tutorial and be able to start saving games. This is a big change up from the other Sims games - where you could save and quit and come back to the tutorial, or choose not to do it. Being forced to always play the tutorial if you have to re-install the game with no way to skip it completely or not being able to give yourself several hours to play through the tutorial is going to have fans dropping like file the first time they have to re-install the game if something breaks and they are faced with the tutorial over again.

Right now I guess the best that can be done is to tell people over and over again to back up the game after saving it immediately after finishing the tutorial and saving it in a pristine folder somewhere far away from the computer its one (ie hd crashes). I put a copy on a flash drive and taped the drive to my monitor so I can't loose it Smile Its that important. I can actually see a market for copies of 'tutorial finished' saves that people will be needing who did not take the advice to save their own.

I am really not sure why EA took such a turn on this one game - Many of us have always done the game a bit differently - jumped in with the money cheat - loaded up the bank account and explored the world and the game our way. I guess maybe EA decided that everyone should learn the game first before cheats could be wisely applied?

For the heck of it I tried to jump past the tutorial by loading up simoleons, QP, KP, Mood and using testingcheats to avoid hunger and exhaustion and even though you can cheat yourself almost out of the tutorial there are some parts you simply have to do and the game gets almost wacky when a new monarch arrives with all the buildings a heroes and the tutorial is trying to run Smile

I had hoped that was a bug and that they would fix that - but I guess not and as many times as the 'you cannot save when in the tutorial' pops up they were really sincere about having you play the tutorial Smile Maybe there is a way to hack it so that you can set the tutorial as played after a fresh install

Hello there,

I think I may have found something that could be useful;

1. Go to: (My) Documents\Electronic Arts\The Sims Medieval .
2. Open the file called "Options.ini", using a text editor. (E.g. WordPad)
3. Look for a line called: "enablegameplaytutorial = 1".
4. Change it to: "enablegameplaytutorial = 0".
5. See if it works.

Ps. Mine was already on "0". Maybe because I already finished the tutorial.
