Sims 4 after 5 minutes overheats and laptop shuts down. [SOLVED] Empty Sims 4 after 5 minutes overheats and laptop shuts down. [SOLVED]

Post by Guest Fri 31 Oct 2014, 20:30

I installed your sims 4 torrent and after 5 minutes I play the game my laptop overheats and shuts down. My system is:

Intel(R) Core(TM) i3-2350M CPU 2.30 GHZ
RAM 4.00 GB
64bit SYSTEM
and graphic card: intel hd graphics 3000

Is there a problem in my pc requirements or is it something else?

Hi there, and welcome to the Games4theworld Forum! Very Happy

Your graphics card is a bit low for the requirements of the game, but normally it shouldn't cause something like this. Is The Sims 4 the only game that you are having trouble with? Have you tried with some other games to see if the same thing happens?

You should put all of the graphic options to the absolute minimum if you are planning on starting the game again. Check if your fan (it should be on one side of the laptop) is working correctly, and is not stuck or blocked with dust. You can also download a program like Speccy, and check the temperatures that each component has when idle and when running the game.

If the laptop is overheating, it can be very damaging to it's hardware, possibly ruining a component. Be very careful with that.

My system tempreture is without playing a game:

CPU
    Intel Core i3 2350M @ 2.30GHz    64 °C
    Sandy Bridge 32nm Technology
RAM
    4,00GB Dual-Channel DDR3 @ 665MHz (9-9-9-24)
Motherboard
    PEGATRON CORPORATION A15 (SOCKET 0)    65 °C
Graphics

    Intel HD Graphics 3000 (Unknown)
    1024MB NVIDIA GeForce GT 630M (Unknown)    59 °C
Storage
    465GB TOSHIBA MQ01ABD050 (SATA)    41 °C

I have sims 3 from your torrent also installed in my laptop and all extensions but with that game it never crashed.

I will try to clean it from the dust the following days and I will inform you how the "cool down" went! Very Happy

Hello,

I'd just like to emphasize that laptops which only have these "integrated graphics chips" are never meant to be used for gaming purposes. Even if you clean out all the dust, the cooling will be insufficient, because - again - the whole hardware isn't tailored to gaming. And checking the temperatures is a nice measure, but in the end it only helps you detect symptoms.

If you really want to play games on THAT hardware, never play for longer than 30 minutes or so, and then let the laptop cool down. Also keep in mind that the graphics chip may have taken damage already, because of all your playing so far on that computer. These chips don't "last" for too long, if you game regularly. So you might want to switch to something better, if you can.

Good luck !

Sims 4 after 5 minutes overheats and laptop shuts down. [SOLVED] Empty Re: Sims 4 after 5 minutes overheats and laptop shuts down. [SOLVED]

Post by Guest Sat 01 Nov 2014, 08:40

Hello. This is my first post here and I would like to tell you my idea about this problem. First of all, I play The Sims 4 in a laptop too but it barely has the minimun requirements. So let me tell you my specs first and then you will see that this is problem has nothing to do with the specs propably (excpet if any of them is broken or damaged). My processor is "Intel Celeron Dual-Core CPU T3000 1.80Ghz". Now that is below the "Intel Core i3" I gues. My ram is only 2,00 GB but the game still never even freezes. My graphics card is "Mobile Intel 4 Series Express Chipset Family", and it's propably one of the worse graphic cards but it still plays the game good with the medium settings. As for the free space it doesn't matter to the perfomance so much but anyway i have 188 GB hard drive [but I don't know it's name :-(]. Also, I was even playing The Sims 3 with this same laptop in the low-medium settings without any lag or problems ever. So I strongly beleave that this overheating problem has nothing to do with your specs but with other things (like dust or the fan being broken). Try cheking about these stuff and then tell us again if you have any further problems.

i work on computers and custom build them and let me tell you that your gonna have over heating and turning off these laptos are not ment for gaming that meant for using the internet watcing videos and playing maybe some very small game. but if you think that its just over heating from dust then there's a quick fix u can try get some compressed air and shot it into the main fan base where your cpu is in the pips it come clean out. but as for the laptop there not made for being put on your laps anyway since they suck up all the fibers from your cloths so use a laptop table with good cooling and sucking fans on it to help with it that will keep your laptop cool and prevent most dust being sucked in ... But no matter what u try your gpu in them laptops is just gonna over heat with thess games

Hi!

I actually have a similiar problem as kmarlasis. I can play the game for about 5 to 10 minutes but then the screen gets kinda weird and my computer crashes. I think the graphic card is overheating although it ''only'' gets to a temperature around 71Celsius (around 160F). I cleaned the dust out of the graphic card but that didn't help. The thing is, wherever i check for the minimum specs, i get the result that my CPU is not strong enough, and my GPU is. But when i play the game, the CPU is (kinda) okay and the GPU's temperature gets too high. Now i would like to know where's the problem, so i could maybe fix it by buying a new GPU (or CPU). But in a the sims 4 forum where there is a list of supported graphic cards mine is listed as an okay GPU (should work at least on low settings). Is there maybe something wrong with my instalion of the game? Or is my graphic card not compatible with my CPU or motherboard(or whatever it's called).

My specs are:

Foxconn motherboard
CPU:  Pentium Dual-core E5200 2.50Ghz
RAM: 3GB
GPU: NVIDIA GeForce 9500 GT  2GB
Screen resolution: 1680 x 1050
Windows 7 32-bit
Direct x 11

I would really appreciate if you gave your opinions and could possibly help and advise me. Thank you and sorry for my english!Smile

Guys please.
Can each person get his/her own thread please?

Seriously, that makes it so much easier to help you out: each problem is different, even though you might think it is the same (different hardware, different Windows bugs, and God knows how many they are!).
Moreover, some users will be too shy to get back on their own topic once their thread has been "intruded upon" by others. Or so they might feel.

So please, open a new topic for your problems!

Thank you for your understanding.

Oh of course, I'm sorry, i just thought this was a similiar problem and i would just be creating a new similar post and that wouldn't be okay.

This issue wouldn't really be because your computer does not meet the recommended specs for the game but rather that your computer is having issues keeping cool.

You mention that you have a laptop and typically with those it is important that within half a year that you take it to get maintained (or if you know how and are comfortable with, maintaining it yourself).
usually they are designed to keep stable within a year or 2 at most before needing too but that is only under the recommended/suggested/intended usage scenarios, where as a computer meant for light web browsing and video watching should typically last 2 years under just that type of usage.

but with today's consumers using computers for all sorts of things above or outside their PC's ability it is becoming more common that they begin to fail a lot sooner. personally i have a gaming laptop with two GT650m in SLI and it tends to get very hot also regardless of the fact that they don't share a heat sink or fan. the main issue becomes that the thermal compound between the heat sink and the GPU/CPU Die (if they use the same heat sink and heat pipes) becomes less effective as it begins to dissipate with increased usage, AKA prolonged high temperatures.

another thing would me to make sure all dust and debris remain clear from the ventilation and that the intake vents are also clear of any obstructions that would result in lower airflow into and out of the machine, AKA don't block the fans in any way.

Given your system specs OP it's very clear that your computer was made for basic, light gaming and mild multimedia.
(based off "intel sandy bridge i3" and "Nvidia GT630m")

you may also want to make sure that when running in optimus mode that you have Sims4 running on the Nvidia chip rather than the integrated Intel graphics chip as that runs on the CPU Die and will cause the processor's temps to spike to very dangerous levels, resulting in long term damage which would require replacing the CPU in the near future.

Hopefully this helps anyone in the future with temperature issues regarding laptops and other mobile PC solutions especially with nvidia optimus technology which results in some games using the intel chip rather than the nvidia one.
always offer full specs or as close to full as you can get, like OP's second post. lol Smile
