Latest Sims 3 patch won't install - says "installed version cannot be found. setup will now terminate" [SOLVED]

I need to manually install patches since my "origin" won't work. When I click "Refresh" from my launcher, nothing happens (I have version 1.0, so I know I need updating). I really don't mind that, but I can't install the patch (from this forum) manually without getting the message ""installed version cannot be found. setup will now terminate". It doesn't help that I have about three versions of the base game files because, well, I didn't know what I was doing before. The base game (no expansion packs) work for me just fine. I just want to update my game so I can mod it with .package files.

How can I fix this?

I fixed this problem by Windows 7 reinstalling it with some correct settings. Now I'm getting the "invaled file found" error message that other people are getting, so I'm going to try the solutions they found. If that doesn't work, I'll post a new thread.

Nvm. Having the same problem: "installed program cannot be determined"....

I'm trying to apply the ultimate fix, but I'm stuck at the launcher step. I just downloaded the Sims 3 base game and Generations. The launcher from the Base game folder not only does not recognize Generations on the bottom (nothing is down there), but when I try to refresh the update, it says my base game (v 1.0!) is up to date, and won't let me update. Literally nothing happens. I also get that "you are using an unauthorized Sims 3 copy" message on my Launcher. I do have Origin, but it says it's a beta. Does that matter? I have watched the Ultimate fix video and followed it exactly up until this point. I have not cracked the game yet.

I reinstalled Generations from you all and the update worked. Thank you!

Now I have another problem though. When I start the game from either TS3 or TS3W, it loads into Generations OK, then it says it can't find the Generations CD. I installed the # Crack files from the ultimate fix into the base game folder (only crack I've installed), but the game says it can't find the CD.

I just had to redownload the fix. I think that the crack from my first download was messed up.
