Sims 3 during game play screen randomly gets very dark.

When I play this game the screen will flash to black then come back up and be very dark display, then five minutes later it'll flash to black again and be the standard display. I'm new to all this so I don't know what to do to fix this issue. Sorry if this is a repeat post, I didn't notice any other topics with my issue.
