Keep gettting the "Unable to Start" because required game data is missing or damaged
I downloaded the toddler, vampires, and bowling stuff --> parenthood --> then fitness. My game was working fine before this, what did I do wrong?
I will say that I did move my Sims 4 folder after downloading parenthood from program files 86 to just program files. Is that what messed it up? I was just tryna use the 64bit.

Hi there,
When you move the folder, did you copy + paste or simply move it out? Also, did you exclude Program Files in your windows defender and anti-virus as well? Have you tried moving the folder back to (x86)?
Also, if you use any shortcut to run the game, make sure it's set to the correct location and run the game as administrator.

Re: Keep gettting the "Unable to Start" because required game data is missing or damaged
I simply moved it out and I did exclude it, and I did move it back. still doing the same thing
Also when I was downloading the games, it gave me an extra "game" file so I just deleted them and kept one of them. Was that bad?
I wasn't sure what to do, so I reinstalled toddlers, vampires, and bowling, parenthood, and fitness stuff all over again and it's still doing the same thing.
I also do have mods (as well as some custom content like houses and clothes and hair, etc..), but I thought that could be an issue so I just took the whole mods folder out of the sims 4 folder. Should I remove the tray folder with the houses as well?

Re: Keep gettting the "Unable to Start" because required game data is missing or damaged
First make sure that after you have downloaded the sims 4 toddler+vampire to rename your "Game" folder to "Game_"
If you have already done that and downloaded the sims 4 Parenthood then make sure to download TS4 parent_fix (include new "data" folder that you need to replace the old one with it!) and the fix for endless household loading screen (which include new "Game" folder that you need also to replace the old "Game" folder with it!)
Also make sure to download the latest pack "the sims 4 fitness"!
Sadly I cant post any link since i am a new member but hopefully you should be able to find the links

Re: Keep gettting the "Unable to Start" because required game data is missing or damaged
Try a fresh The Sims 4 folder in Documents\Electronic Arts by renaming that file The Sims 4_old.
Then start your game again.
Then start your game again.

Re: Keep gettting the "Unable to Start" because required game data is missing or damaged
Hi @cdera
This concerns me greatly. Did you delete the Game folders from the .rar files after extracting them? If the Vampire onwards is giving you problems, redownload those packs again. Ignore all the 'temp fixes' you have come across because the parenthood update and fitness update have everything. Also when I was downloading the games, it gave me an extra "game" file so I just deleted them and kept one of them. Was that bad?
- If you want to test by each pack see and where the 'prompt' appeared.
- You can back up your working installation folder somewhere else first -> For example D Drive or external disk and name them to Sims4backup (or anything really) so the game won't pick it up.
- Download the Vampire pack, extract, copy + paste ALL Program Files(x86) or Program Files.
- Go to C:\Program Files (x86)\The Sims 4 -> Delete the Game folder.
- Copy + paste Parenthood + Fitness.
- Run the game as administrator.

Re: Keep gettting the "Unable to Start" because required game data is missing or damaged
then try to do that:
Make a backup of the Sims 4 folder in Documents\Electronic Arts to an external or flash drive.
Rename the The Sims 4 folder in Documents\Electronic Arts to The Sims 4_Backup.
Now start the game (All your save games will be gone, your options will be reset to factory settings and all your custom content will be gone. Not to worry, it’s all still there in that backup folder).
A new The Sims 4 folder will have been recreated in the documents\Electronic Arts folder. Some folders might be missing for they are only created when you need them
Start your game & see if your error is gone. If so, you can put the folders back.
--> The following folder ( Tray/ Mods/ screenshots / saves) contain files you might need again. so put them back in the new Sims 4 folder that will have been recreated in the documents\Electronic Arts folder.

Re: Keep gettting the "Unable to Start" because required game data is missing or damaged
@Ageha I did delete the game folders from the rar. files after extracting them. I already tried reinstalling the packs and nothing happened still the same error that won't even let me load up the game.
I have windows 10, I hope this doesn't have anything to do with it.
Do you mean to paste ALL my PROGRAM FILES 86x or paste the vampire pack in program files 86x?

Re: Keep gettting the "Unable to Start" because required game data is missing or damaged
Double checking, did you delete the Game from the .RAR file after extracting when you re-download them again? If yes, then that's your error. The guide to installing the Sims 4 can be found here but I'll break it down for you in this thread. I'll put it under spoiler since it's long, so just click on the 'steps to note' below: @cderacdera wrote:like the order of downloading the sims 4 to not have this problem again
- Steps to note:
- As previously stated, it's better to test the game pack by pack. So you can stop at where it works, back-up your installation, so you won't need to re-do everything again.
- The order of installation is as follows: Base game -> 1)Get to Work -> 2)Get Together -> 3)City Living -> 4)Vampires -> 5)Parenthood -> 6)Fitness
- Before doing any downloading/extracting/installing, make sure you've properly excluded the files in your anti-virus and windows defender, which can be found here.
- Install the base game as per normal, do not change the default location.
- After the first DLC has been downloaded, extract the .rar file, copy ALL the files, and paste them to Program Files(x86)\EA\The Sims 4. Take note that it's mention to move out the folder LAST after all DLCs had been installed, but if you want to test the game by 'packs', you may move them now either to Program Files/(x86) OR your external disk.
- Repeat step 5 for DLCs #2 till #4.
- Now, go to where you install the Sims 4, it should be C:\Program Files (x86)\The Sims 4 and delete the Game folder.
- Extract Parenthood, copy ALL files, and paste them to where the game is install.
- Do the same for Fitness as well.
- Now, go to Documents\The Sims 4 and rename the folder (if you have any and wanted to keep your saves/mods) to thesims4_backup -> or anything really.
- Run the game either from Game\Bin -> TS4.exe OR TS4_x64.exe // OR from the desktop shortcut -> make sure it's pointed to correct location.
- As previously stated, it's better to test the game pack by pack. So you can stop at where it works, back-up your installation, so you won't need to re-do everything again.

Re: Keep gettting the "Unable to Start" because required game data is missing or damaged
You are actually not supposed to delete any Game file after extraction. Only in the C:\Program Files (x86)\The Sims 4 before installing Parenthood. Are you able to install the game now or still facing errors? Like mentioned in the PM, if you're still confused, we can give the TeamViewer a try.cdera wrote:Yes I deleted them

Re: Keep gettting the "Unable to Start" because required game data is missing or damaged
You could try to download THIS FOLDER
It's only 14 Kb, so should not be a problem.
Extract with Winrar and you'll see a The Sims 4 folder.
This is an empty progress folder (so no own Sims, no own Houses, now own Downloads in it, but based on all DLC's incl. Fitness)
In other words, it contains all game data required to start the game.
What to do with this folder ?
1. When your language is other than English, rename the folder to the name in your language (Die Sims, Los Sims, De Sims, Les Sims a.o.)
2. Rename your present folder The Sims 4 (or other language name) in Documents\Electronic Arts to f.e. The Sims 4_Old
3. Copy the downloaded (evt. renamed folder) The Sims 4 to Documents\Electronic Arts
4. Now start your game again.
In case you have not installed all DLC's you might get a message
As your game is pirated, the uninstalled packs will of course never download.
But when you save your game you won't be bothered with this message again.

I'm glad to hear that!cdera wrote:I got it working now but got the infinite loading screen, thank you guys so much though!!!! Expecially @ageha as your steps to reinstall it was easy and worked. Now this loading screen...hmm lol
For the infinite loading screen, did you delete the Game folder before updating to Parenthood? If not, go to:
- C:\Program Files (x86)\The Sims 4 -> Delete the Game folder
- Copy Parenthood (ALL files) and paste them to the above location. Or I guess, you can just copy the game folder instead.
- Repeat for Fitness.
- Make sure you run the game with a fresh sims 4 folder (Documents)

I did that already lol, I just don't know. It starts up, goes to a loading screen, and then freezes on the loading screen. @ageha

Re: Keep gettting the "Unable to Start" because required game data is missing or damaged
I see. Do you have any mods installed? It's mostly cause my mods/CCs so if you have none then unfortunately we need to eliminate things one by one.
Try starting the game with TS4.exe instead or in windowed mode.

Re: Keep gettting the "Unable to Start" because required game data is missing or damaged
@ageha it worked now it doesn't again, it froze on the loading screen...I don't have any mods in this folder but I do have my backup sins 4 folder with my old sins 4 games saved on my desktop along with my tray folder and mods folder so I don't think that's why..., I did try what you said about using TS4 instead and putting it in window mode and it worked but now it's freezing
Is the update supposed to make the home screen show all the expansion packs to the left and the play button to the left above the expansion packs? Thanks again soo so soo much !!!! <3

Re: Keep gettting the "Unable to Start" because required game data is missing or damaged
hi @cdera ,
Yes, the new layout now makes all the available packs and also the play/load button to the left. Can you check to see if your drivers are up-to-date as well? Also, I should have probably asked this, but does your pc meets the minimum requirement to run the game?

@Ageha my video card was 27 months out of date lol, so I updated it...it's fine now, all processors are updated...
It does for the most part just my CPU isn't good enough for the Sims 4.
