The Sims 2 Complete Collection Installation Error

I downloaded the sims 2 complete collection and most of the expansion packs won't install at all. I can usually get through the installation until it gets to the part where it has to check for updates. Then i click ok and it says 


"The update process did not complete siccessfully. Installation will now terminate."

I have no idea what to do. Every article I've been on went one of two ways:

1) The replies had nothing to do with the actual problem

2) The solutions people were giving made absolutely no sense what-so-ever.

Please help. I've been trying to install this for a day now.
