Problems Installing the Base Game. [SOLVED]
I've been trying to install the base game for about a week now. I had to reboot my computer and needed to reinstall.
I have downloaded the file to WinRar and extracted the files to the desktop as instructed. I installed the game. However, after I install the game, it never installs to the right location on the computer and an error message pops up once I open the game saying that I have installed an unauthorized copy of the Sims 3. How do I fix this issue? I know that I will not be able to install expansion packs unless the base game installs to the right location.
"C:\Program Files (x86)\Electronic Arts\The Sims 3\Game\Bin\Sims3Launcher.exe"
That is where it installs but I never see it in registry editor.
//EDIT
Also, it doesn't install I don't see the game in my Start/ All programs menu. And it cannot seem to be located

Re: Problems Installing the Base Game. [SOLVED]
Hello,
What do you need the Registry Editor for anyway?
You only want the base game, without any expansions? If yes, the error about "Unauthorized copy" is normal. If you want to use the launcher just like an original copy, you'll have to follow these instructions carefully: https://games4theworld.forumotion.com/t1171-must-read-how-to-install-the-sims-3-correctly
Though you'll need at least one of the expansions listed on that page.

Re: Problems Installing the Base Game. [SOLVED]
In the instructions for the World Adventures pack, it says to go into the registry and change the SKU #
//EDIT
So I tried all the suggestions in the post you sent and nothing seems to
be working. I'm following all the directions properly. I even went to
the link that you sent and followed the directions there. I can explain
what I'm doing and maybe it may help.
The Base Game:
1. I download the game using UTorrents.
2. Then, I opened the file using WinRar and followed the instructions and placed the file on the desktop before installation.
3.
After, I used Daemon Tools Lite and mounted the iso files using the
SCSI drive. (I'm not quite sure if using SCSI or DT makes a difference).
4. The games install fine at this point.
When I got to downloading the World Adventures Pack I ran into these issues:
1.
When following the instructions, I went to the registry. It says that
the SKU should be located in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Sims\The Sims
3. However, the Sims 3 is installing in
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Sims\The Sims 3. I'm not sure if
this has anything to do with why the game doesn't want to install.
2.
When I try to install the expansion pack, it says that it needs to
update the Sims 3 but the update always fails. I have tried using the
fix and I have also tried using the manual update. The manual update
freezes my computer when I try to open it. Neither option seems to be
working.
This is actually the first time that I'm experiencing a
problem. I had all the expansion packs (World Adventures, Showtime,
Ambitions, etc.) before rebooting the computer but I did not have any
issues
//EDIT
*Update..
So I tried a custom installation and everything works fine now. Thanks for your help.
